It has been quite awhile since I have given a cancer journey update so I wanted to do so today. I have gotten the o.k. to go to Greece for my Stampin' Up!® incentive trip. I fly to Rome getting there on Saturday. I will then meet my English friend Jane at the Rome airport and we will go to our hotel for the evening. The next morning we will transfer to our ship via bus and then set sail on our cruise. My leg has been a bit sore lately but I am hoping it will cooperate with me as we travel around the Greek Isles. I am excited to see Jane, see all of my Stampin' Up!® friends I have traveled the world with and see the Greek Isles as I have never been to Greece.
When I return from the cruise, I have a brain MRI the following Tuesday morning. I am hoping it all goes well. Then on Thursday I have a treatment that will include my bone strengthening shot. My treatment was pushed back a week so I could go on the trip. Then my big operation day will be July 24th. I go into the Newnan Piedmont Hospital at 7:15 where they are going to do something with a lymph node to see if and what they need to remove. I know that at least one needs to be removed. After that procedure, my surgeon Dr. Frank Powell will do a bilateral mastectomy. All of my doctors talked me out of reconstruction due to the high risk it would have been. I am not going to lie. This operation will be risky, but I have peace about it. I would appreciate all of my prayer warriors praying for my surgeon as well as me on July 24th for the operation to go well without any glitches. I would also appreciate prayers for a complete and non eventful recovery. I will still have some cancer procedures after this is all done, but I will deal with that when the time comes.
One of the funny things I got when I went for my prep op were "knitted knockers". I had never ever heard of them. Apparently there is a national group who volunteer to knit knitted covers in cup sizes to cover stuffing. They are to place in a bra to fill the cups. I was given a pair with the address on them in case I need more. The office lady who gave them to me said I would also eventually want to be fitted for mastectomy bras. They said I could have reconstruction later if I want it, but I will play that by ear. The great thing about not having breasts is that I can be any size cup I want to for the day. If I want to appear voluptuous, I can wear a bigger cup or if I do not want to appear busty I can wear a smaller cup. It will be fun to play with my new look and I had always wanted less at the top so I definitely will get that. So all in all things are moving forward and I am thrilled that this next chapter will finally be behind me. Again I appreciate prayers from my prayer warriors during this time. I believe in the power of prayer. I am living proof. Thank you all for your concern and well wishes. I am on track for slaying this beast named cancer.
